Green tea is brilliant for you. So is watercress and nettles. (and they are free, I pick them from outside my house!LOL)

Garlic is fab, many spices can cleanse the blood. I make my own spiced tea which we have every afternoon, it is so comforting and good for you!

Not too sure of the purest brand of green tea, my hubby loves it and drinks it often, I prefer jasmine tea (ie chinese restaurant tea, goegeous!)http://natural-green-tea.blogspot.com/

This is quite a nice blog re green tea! and it mentions RA...

Much love,

Amanda

Hi Lorna,

I have eaten Mangosteens whilst on holiday in the tropics and have heard of about it's anti-inflammatory properties from a Dr in nutrition who recommended that I should start taking it.

I must admit I do take a lot of natural remedies, and like to believe it helps. I have heard about mango and turmeric being natural anti-inflammatories as part of traditional ayurvedic medicine treatments for rheumatic illness, but like the mangosteen juice I've yet to try it.

I have taken Inflammx, which contained Mangosteen, Mango, ginger, and turmeric amongst a lot of other minerals and vitamins (made by metagenics). Again it's very expensive, and did help with the inflammation, but then it gave me the trots so wasn't surprised when it stopped working as well as most of it was going down the Loo faster than I was drinking the stuff!

love,

Barbara

Hi there,

I know I said some time ago about Mangosteen Juice, but I would like to offer my advice on this once more as I really do feel this would help so many of you. I have tried lowering the dose etc and missing it out but I really do feel the difference when I do not take it. I know some bad publicity has been on line about mangosteen, but the juice I get is really good and the source dependable . I can supply a telephone number for anyone wishing to try it, I never go without it now. My Rhummy has said to keep taking it as she said I have been on it since the beginning. She also sees the diference in my ability to do things. Lorna ThumpUp ThumpUp

Hi Julia,

Sorry I didn't realise you are not to put links up here so I have removed it. I buy 3 bottles and get a forth free. It may seem quite expensive but I do not put a price on being free of pain. Remember you must take it first thing on an empty stomach, my husband brings it to me at 6.30 ish and I get up an hour later to have my breakfast. I have pages of testimonials from people who swear by it. If you had seen me three years ago you would not believe the difference in me now. Very important DO NOT STOP YOUR MEDICATION this is as well as. Hope this helps you as much as it does me. Good Luck Lorna x ThumpUp

hi Lorna,

thanks for bumping this up so i can read it.

well was feeling positive that i would at least give it a try ... but as always there seems to be a scare as well as benefits !!

so i think i will ask my GP as i said i was going to see him a week on Wednesday and also when i next need to speak to the Rheumy Nurse will definately ask her too.

i wish things weren't so complicated especially when you are in a vunerable state like me at the moment.

but thanks for the info and i will look into it.

Hi Suzanne,

Glad you are giving it a try, remember it's only fruit juice, there is nothing in it to do you any harm. There is a list of ingredients at the bottom of the link copy them out to show your doctor. You know to highlight your cursor over it and click to bring it up, ( just checking as you said you are new to computers ) Smile I am still learning too. Really hope you get some relief too. Hi Julia,

Remember to take it on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before you eat. It will take a couple of weeks to see a noticeable difference but I hope you have as much success as me. Believe it will help you , I feel a positive mind makes such a difference. Take care Lorna x ThumpUp ThumpUp

Hi guys!

I feel like I am being a real 'stick in the mud' on this one. However, for the safety of those on the forum who are taking prescribed medications for their RA I feel it important to re-iterate.

Most of these 'natural remedies' have not been rigorously tested for their efficacy or compatibility with RA medicines. Whilst Lorna has been taking mangosteen juice for many years without problems what works for one may not work for another.

Lorna has chosen to share her experiences of this supplement and of course anyone wishing to give it a go is free to make that choice. Please check with your rheumatologist before taking any additional supplements; they need to be able to monitor the efficacy of the drugs that they have prescribed to treat RA. Adding to the cocktail with non prescription treatments could actually mask the true value of what they are treating you with. If you are currently taking an NSAID (ie Naproxen) adding supplements claiming to have anti inflammatory properties may actually cause an overdose! So be aware!

Lorna, I am just erring on the side of caution due to my own experiences of taking supplements (see my post on page 1). Also, you may wish to remove 'the link' (before it catches someones attention!) as it breaches forum guidelines, "no advertising or promoting of products and services is allowed".

Most definitely agree ... a positive mind can really pay dividends,

Lyn x

Hi Lyn,

I copied your post and took it to show my Rhummy the last time I was there, it was then she said stay on it there is nothing harmful in it. But you are right people should check with their Rhummy or doctor before trying anything new. I will check about the link thanks. Lorna Smile

Hi Lorna

Hope you didn't mind me saying something. It is okay to post links, for example those that provide information, but not in the form of advertising or recommending particular services.

I think you have been so fortunate finding something that helps you and long may it continue. My experiences over many years following diagnosis have led me to be wary of the so-called natural remedies/cures simply because there are none! Although products may not contain 'harmful' items it is more the possible unknown interaction with prescribed RA medication that can be a problem. Clearly not an issue in your case though!

Arthritis Research UK have done an evidence based study and report. For people with rheumatoid arthritis the 'medicines' researched score poorly, with 13 out of 21 complementary medicines (62 per cent) scoring just 1 point i.e. the available evidence suggests that the compound is not effective. At the other end of the scale, fish body oil scores a maximum 5 for effectiveness among people with RA, offering real benefits. It also receives a green light for safety.

As far as I am aware Omega 3 fish oils remain the only supplement known to provide some benefit.

HI Lyn,

No not at all, I just feel this is worth a try because if it helped me there is every chance it will help others. I am really well now but it was not always the case. I will never forget just how bad I was in the beginning, but I never gave up hope and remained positive at all times. I am working on getting something organised in Edinburgh. It will probably be early November as I am off to Furteventure soon for 2 weeks. I am so looking forward to meeting you then. Then we can have a proper chat in person ThumpUp Lorna x
